History

Filippo-ChiappeThe foundation of the company dates back to 1886, when Filippo Chiappe, who had studied drawing and fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Massa and had worked in Algiers and Paris before becoming head of the jewelry factory Vassallo, opened a small laboratory in San Lorenzo in Genoa, where he designed and produced jewelry and silver objects. Famous for his sophistication and originality of execution of the design, then became the official supplier of the Royal Family and important noble families in Italy.
F. Chiappe’s jewels were weared by exponents of families Raggio Spinola, Croce Marabotto, Parodi Delfino up to famous people of Italian and international politicians and industry representatives. Some of the jewelry made for the Royal Family are described and documented in the book “Gioielli di Casa Savoia” written by Maria Gabriella di Savoia and Stefano Papi, published by Electa.Alberico-Fiori

When Filippo Chiappe, the founder of the jewellery 50 years before, died on 16th november 1936, a friend of him, the journalist Carlo Panseri published in its memory a very elegant small book that ended in this way: “... not all of him disappears. Now there will be his new disciples, called Alberico and Gino Fiori, that will bring the torch that will shine of the same light, extending in this way an art tradition grown in the rich soil of italian country always present in Filippo’s mind and heart.” Certainly today, after 64 years, that style arouses tenderness, and others names, others important people, others generations added to very faithful disciples, but the hope that the artistic tradition hadn’t been abandoned and that the light continued to shine for a long time, wasn’t fruitless. The same “passion hidden in the good taste and in incomparable brillance” has guided until today the Filippo Chiappe’s successors that haven’t lost the most precious heritage left them: the absolute faith between the jeweller and the customer to show his art in the best way.Even if for the present generations, as in the past, the F.Chiappe’s brand is a synonym of jewellers in Genoa, it means that this heritage was preserved skillfully and noiselessly.

Famiglia-FioriWe have already read these words by “Orafo”, the small pretty book published during the ‘30s about Filippo Chiappe: “Oh, the mysterious history of so much jewels! And the jeweller was as the Deus Ex Macchina of this wonderful richness that exalts the female beautiful or a Queen, or a petty enriched bourgeois, or an actress in the theatre, or a paramour, is already the worth ”The mystery, the history, the women, the richness but mostly the beautiful are the key words of the people that love in the best way the jewels.Other words were added by F.Chiappe, not less important, not less decisive to explain a success that lasts in the time. This words are typical of Genoa language: discretion, sobriety, prudence, elegance. After 110 years that the F.Chiappe group exists, Giorgio Fiori, helped by his sons Filippo e Massimiliano, continues the family tradition in the new shop in Via XX Settembre and in the third millennium he has brought the jewels also in your house with internet.
